Is Fear Holding you Back?

How to Flip This Script in 2026

For some people, the new year doesn’t feel hopeful—it feels heavy. Pressure to finally get it right. Fear of failure. Fear of judgment. Fear of rejection. Fear of fill-in-the-blank.

Life is scary. Fear is real. Much of it is rooted in lived experience and long-held scripts we’ve come to believe as truth. But many of those scripts simply aren’t actually true.

Some people call these fears self-protective. In reality, they’re often self-defeating. Fear invites doubt and hesitation instead of courage and belief. And when your mind has been trained to wait for “the other shoe to drop,” it becomes a brutal cycle—one that’s hard to break.

If this resonates, know that you are not alone.  With the willingness to believe, a whole lot of bravery, and the right support, you can make changes for the better this year:

  • Belief that you have the power to change—because you do.

  • Bravery to say: I’m willing to change my mindset so I can change my life.

  • Support—community, connection, or even one trusted person—who walks alongside you. Not someone who fuels doubt, but someone who believes with you and in you. If that support lives outside your immediate orbit, go find it. Love yourself enough to invest in yourself. No one else can do that for you.

Support and accountability matter. You don’t have to do this alone.

Support looks different for everyone.

It might be a trusted friend—ideally one where support flows both ways.

It might be a therapist to help you process the past that’s still holding you back.

It might be a coach to help you work with what’s happening now—the inner critics, the self-doubt, the stuck patterns—and take small, intentional steps toward a life you actually love.

It might be your faith, your relationship with a higher power, or the container a worship community holds for you.

It might be a group that offers structure, accountability, and momentum. (Manifestation & Momentum starts soon.)

Or it could be a combination of one or many of the above.

How to Start

In 2024, I wrote a post called Five Steps Toward Banishing Guilt and Fear from Your Life.” It still holds true. You can find it here.

Here’s what we all have in common

  • We’ve all experienced pain, sorrow, disappointment, and loss—some more than others. The people who move forward aren’t untouched by these things; they simply refuse to let them define how the rest of their lives unfold. They process the pain and choose not to stay stuck in it.

  • We all have inner critics—sometimes more than one—telling us we’re not enough or that we’ll never get it right. They may think they’re protecting us, but most of the time, they’re just holding us back.

  • We also all have a wise inner voice. It’s just often drowned out.

  • We attract what we put into the world. When we lead with fear and doubt, that’s often what comes back.

  • And we all have the ability to choose change—to choose growth, healing, and momentum.

As Jelly Roll puts it:

“I know I can’t be the only one who’s holding on for dear life. But God knows, I know, when it’s all said and done, I’m not okay—but it’s all gonna be all right.”

You're not. And it is.

Believe. Be brave. Find support.

Because you are worth it.
